It is very solid and stable, even with a larger flash, but you must lock the screw very strong if it is heavier (I've tried with a YN565EX, similar to Canon 580EX II and I had to fasten really tight, to use stable handheld. If you lock it tight before using, there will be no problem with it, it is very well built. Maybe later though I'll change the rubber pads to screw washer, for easier lock)
The whole thing is metal, except the lower part of the shoe, where the screw mounts in. It is some kind of rigid plastic, it seems strong enough.
It is not as big as it seemed to me on the pictures, with a larger wide angle lens or with battery grip you can't use like displayed with a camera on the second picture, but it is exactly large enough to use on 600D without battery grip, with any kit, macro or tele lens.
I intend to use it for macro photography, and interior events with a softbox. With two big flash it looks very badass btw, I'll post pictures later. :)
